20 Amazing Facts about Google

February 24th, 2008

1. Google records everything they can about you: For all searches they record the cookie ID, your Internet IP address, the time and date, your search terms, and your browser configuration. Increasingly, Google is customizing results based on your IP number. This is referred to in the industry as “IP delivery based on geolocation.”

2.Google retains all of their data indefinitely: Google has no data retention policies. There is evidence that they are able to easily access all the user information they collect and save from they time they began!!

3. Google won’t say why they need this data: Inquiries to Google about their privacy policies are usually ignored. When the New York Times (2002-11-28) asked Sergey Brin if Google ever gets subpoenaed for this information, he had no comment.

4. Google’s cache copy is technically illegal!!: Judging from the Ninth Circuit precedent on the application of U.S. copyright laws to the Internet, Google’s cache copy appears to be illegal. The only way a webmaster can avoid having his site cached on Google is to put a “noarchive” meta in the header of every page on his site. Surfers like the cache, but webmasters don’t. Many webmasters have deleted questionable material from their sites, only to discover later that the problem pages live merrily on in Google’s cache. The cache copy should be “opt-in” for webmasters, not “opt-out.”

5. Google is your enemy….not your friend: Google currently enjoys a 75 percent monopoly for all external referrals to most websites. Webmasters cannot avoid seeking Google’s approval these days, assuming they want to increase traffic to their site. If they try to take advantage of some of the known weaknesses in Google’s semi ’secret’ algorithms, they may find themselves penalized by Google, and their traffic (and income) resultantly disappears. There are no detailed, published standards issued by Google, and there is no appeal process for penalized sites. Google is completely unaccountable. Most of the time Google doesn’t even answer email from webmasters.
6. Google’s index of web pages is by far the largest in the world, comprising of billions of web pages. Google searches this gigantic collection of web pages often in less than half a second!

7. Google’s Home Page Has 51 Validation Errors. Dubious?: Just run it through this validator http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0

8. Google is a privacy time bomb: With 300 million + searches per day, most from outside the U.S., Google is a privacy disaster waiting to happen. Those newly-commissioned data-mining folks in Washington can only dream about the sort of efficiency google has already achieved..

9. The infamous “I’m feeling lucky” button is hardly ever used (1 in 1000 users). However, in trials it was found that removing it would somehow reduce the Google experience. Users wanted it kept. It was a comfort button.

10. Due to the sparseness of the homepage, in early user tests they noted people just sitting looking at the screen. After a minute of nothingness, the tester intervened and asked ‘Whats up?’ to which they replied “We are waiting for the rest of it”. To solve that particular problem the Google Copyright message was inserted to act as a crude end of page marker.

11. Google is actually a play on the word googol, which was coined by Milton Sirotta, nephew of the American mathematician Edward Kasner. It was originally made popular in the book ‘Mathematics and the Imagination by Kasner and James Newman’. It refers to the number represented by the numeral 1 followed by 100 zeros. Google’s use of the term reflects the company’s mission to organize the immense, seemingly infinite amount of information available on the web

12. The immortal cookie: Google was the first search engine to use a cookie that expired in 2038! This was at a time when federal websites were prohibited from using persistent cookies completely. Nowadays, immortal cookies are commonplace among search engines ; Google set the standard because no one could be bothered to challenge them.

13. Google has a world-class staff of more than 2,668 employees known as Googlers. The company headquarters is called the Googleplex. The Googleplex operates a legendarily relaxed working environment and as a result Google can pick from the cream of the technology crop.

14. Employees are encouraged to use 20% of their time working on their own projects. Google News and Orkut are both examples of projects that grew from this working model.

15. Google consists of over 450,000 servers, racked up in clusters located in data centers around the world. They are very secretive about precise locations.

16. Google started in January, 1996 as a research project at Stanford University, by Ph.D. candidates Larry Page and Sergey Brin when they were 24 years old and 23 years old respectively. Both are now multi billionaires not surprisingly.

17. Users can restrict their searches for content in 35 non-English languages, including Estonian, Greek, Icelandic, Hebrew, Hungarian, Chinese and Estonian. To date, no requests extra terrestrial requests have been made… but Google has a Klingon interface just in case.!

18. Google translates billions of HTML web pages into a display format for WAP and i-mode phones and wireless handheld devices and has made it possible to enter a search using only one phone pad keystroke per letter, instead of multiple keystrokes.

19. Googlers are multifaceted. One operations manager, who keeps the Google network in good health is a former neurosurgeon. One software engineer is a former rocket scientist. And the company’s chef formerly prepared meals for members of The Grateful Dead and funkmeister George Clinton.

20. Google Groups comprises more than 845 million Usenet messages, which is the world’s largest collection of messages or the equivalent of more than a terabyte of human conversation.

What are meta tags?

February 9th, 2008

The Meta tag in html is not a required tag when you’re creating your web pages; many pages don’t use the tag at all, and I must confess that I’ve not used it on my home page, although I put it into this page by way of demonstration. To put it briefly, the meta tag is used by search engines to allow them to more accurately list your site in their indexes. Sometimes.
If you simply produce your home page and register the URL with a search engine, or a number of search engines, their spider programmes will (eventually) toddle along to your site to index it. Now, each of the search engines does this slightly differently. Altavista for example will grab everything in your document and index it, but will only show the first 250 characters in its description. Consequently, if your site included say, ‘Thanks to:….’ right at the beginning, this is what Altavista would show in its description, and it wouldn’t give the viewer any idea of what your site actually covered. Of course, not all search engines work this way; I’d suggest you ferret around a little bit to see exactly how the popular engines work, and certainly the major two or three such as Altavista, Lycos, Yahoo, Infoseek and Excite. It therefore makes sense to ensure that your opening paragraph is carefully written to ensure it accurately reflects what your site covers.
However, you may be able to exert a certain amount of control over how your site is indexed by the use of the meta tag. (I should however point out that not all search engines will use this tag - Altavista does, but Excite doesn’t, for example. Its not a total cure-all therefore, but you won’t miss out by putting the tag in, and it may well work well in some cases.

Adsense Tips and Techniques

October 26th, 2007

I ever post the below content at digitalpoint forum

http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=372052&highlight=bonusonline

All are my Adsense Tips and Technigues
No.1 of my adsense tips is keep online status in social community..All the times

I am one of Mybloglog community member.
I would like to say that online status is very helpful, you might be noticed that if your status is offline. Your face will display as a dark face, no one interest to click on your page. And imagine that if your avatar is colourful and maybe display as such a beautiful woman, or a little bit sexy. It may attractive to one of friends there. By the way I don’t like a sexy pic. I just prefer a child face, it’s so lovely. ^_^

Any idea of you guy here about social community to bring up more traffic to your site.

No.2 of my adsense tips is Don’t let your site or blog stay the same, old format, old colour is not work

Please imagine that, your background colour is pink, everytime your friends visit your site, they saw pink colour, and you have never change it at all. One past, month past, the time gone, For me, everytime I stumple upon the same site which I ever visited before. I mostly try to check for any change whether there is colour change or not . After that I will take a look for the contents, topics and it’ detail. But if first glance, I saw the same colour , and same format, I suddenly went out without any look.

Therefore, Change your style at least every month, or twices a month. To brighten up your visitor ‘s view ^_^

Ps, Most tricks and tips for Adsense is Traffic – Contents – Contents and Traffic anyway

No. 3 of my adsense tips is Leave the signature in the forum, more than 10 forums.

You have to schedule yourself that don’t let the forum friends away from your post. I mean. Schedule the time to join the forum, at least one day 2 forum, another day another 2 forum, then one week, you have to switch to those 10 forums with just 1-2 posts, both threat starter or replies.

The forum I suggest for you is, sure DP is the first, webmasterworld is my second recomment, google community is also significant increase your traffic, especially if your reply is touched someone

Good luck

Don’t forgot that Most useful tricks and tips for Adsense is Traffic and Contents – Contents and Traffic anyway

No.4, Switching the signature often like once a week.

Even you have only one blog or two blogs, try to change the word identify of your blog often, You may not change every day, but maybe every week.

Check the trend and the word that can impress and invite people to click, Please noted that sometime common word may lead people to click to see your homepage much more than complicate word.

No. 5 of my adsense tips is, Make more common blogs to gain a lot of money, Easy than make a good one blog or site to gain a lot of money.

I think this tips, so many people is well awareness.

May I skip this

No. 6 Use google search at the top right, and the bottom right

This way was proved by many of my adsense friends who got a lot of money from google search box, they said positioning that suitable for searching is the bottom, due to when our visitors could not find any information, they always scrolls down to the bottom of page, and then try to search by themselves.

Please note that Google Adsense allowed us the apply 2 placement of Google search box

To be continued
Sorry I forgot number 7

No. 8 Make one blog with no even one ads display, use this is for a landing mail. Yes you all may know exactly “Landing page” is, it’s normal use for the page for visitor landing to see products you would like to sell, But my tips is to make such a landing e mail and landing blog–oops pls don’t tell your friends for your adsense campaign, All you have to do is just make a signature on your e mail by apply one of your blog I mentioned above for distribute other of your blogs indeed.

The reason that google doesn’t accept spam mails or e mail marketing, I think because of when people click to see your blog or site, there are so many ads display and the adwords advertiser has to pay, that’s not fair for them. But apply one landing blog through e mail. I think it’s ok, not against to Adsense TOS.

No. 9 Use the way of alternative/ filter ads
Especially the ads from google.com, How come I say this? I think the ads from google.com is the most cheapest. You may ever see the ads from www.google.com/adsense displayed on your site often. Yes, I filted it out : )

No. 10 Don’t ex-change your link to anybody (so strange? )

Most of people prefer to exchange your link to others, but for me, I don’t like it. The reason is, I don’t want to let my kind visitor out of my blog without any click he he, I mean if we have so many links out from blog, the visitors may interest one of those blogs than your blog, ha ha ha that’s why I don’t want to face off this problem. The way I do is, I made all my blogs list in each blog. When people comes to my blog, they can go out just other of my blog only, or they may go out with click ads. Up to them ^_^
